Again, this product was born out of necessity. Many
motorcycle owners have experienced the pain of having to replace fork sliders
due to damage caused by stones hitting them on the highway. These small stones
pit the bearing surface of the forks, and causes oil leakage, necessitating the
expensive replacement of the forks.
I kept reading on the mailing lists about people with oil
leakage problems, which were not solved by replacing the fork oil seals. Ideas
on how to prevent this situation from happening varied, but most of them
required the disassembly of the forks in order to fit the "gaiters" on
the bike.
I thought there must be a way to protect the forks without
taking them apart, and since I was already using hook and loop fasteners for the
handlebar muffs, the idea was born, to implement the same materials into the
fork gaiters.
Installation: The fork gaiters install and
remove in about 10 seconds total.
The universal gaiters are constructed out of
polyurethane-coated 210 denier nylon, with arctic fleece lining, and heavy duty
hook and loop closure for firm attachment to the slider fork section.
Installation and removal for cleaning or other fork maintenance takes all of a few seconds.
It has been my own experience, that unless you point the
fork gaiters on your bike out to someone, they probably will not even be
noticed.
After trying the Fork Gaiters on my Concours, I
decided to make them available to other riders, and they have been very well
received.
They are very modestly priced, so everyone can afford
them, and if I may say so myself, very well
worth the money, when we consider the alternative: replacing the forks, after
they have been pitted and abraded by flying debris.
