Our custom made handlebar muffs, or "Hippo Hands", are designed to fit each specific motorcycle model. They are not, as the 1970's well known "hippo hands" made by the Vetter Co., generic in design and therefore poorly fitting on most motorcycles.
The old style "Hippo hands" were also extremely large, heavy and cumbersome. They did not allow for quick removal and reinsertion of the hands into them while riding, as they reached practically up to the rider's elbows. Our "Hippo Hands" have a vinyl stiffener found as an interliner on both top and bottom halves, makes the mouth of the handlebar muffs stays wide open, allowing quick insertion of your hand into them.
Our handlebar muffs ("Hippo Hands") are manufactured with the latest technology in textiles available. They are made of heavy duty Cordura-like 100% nylon exterior, with a coating of polyurethane for water-resistance, and 100% polyester 18 oz. arctic fleece lining for warmth.
Our handlebar muffs are fairly water resistant, but we don't sell them as water proof items. They are meant to keep your hands warm, by creating a pocket of still air around your motorcycle controls. Yet, they will dry very quickly even if completely soaked in a rainstorm, being ready to be used again overnight. On the other hand, old style "Hippo Hands" (and some of the new products in the marketplace now, with "faux fur" as lining material, did take much longer to dry out after getting soaked in a rainy ride.
